HOUSTON – One northwest Harris County couple is questioning why their home address was not listed in the computer system when they called the Harris County Precinct 4 Constable's Office over the weekend.
Mike Northup and his wife say it was late Saturday night, at around 9, when there was a knock at the door.
"I looked out and the guy had a lanyard with a badge on it. I opened the door and he said he was here from a security company. I said, 'If you're really from a security company, this is Saturday night and you need to go back and come back on normal hours,'" Northup said.
He explained the man was pushy and all but demanded he needed to get inside of the home on Lakewood Trail near the Tomball Parkway. At that point, the door was slammed in the man's face and Northup called Precinct 4 constables dispatch number.
"I got the runaround. Dispatchers saying my address wasn't in their system and got put on hold several times and got talked to rather rudely. I've been here 17 years; I think I know my own address," Northup said.
After going back and forth several times for several minutes, it was determined for some reason the address was in fact not in the system. Deputy constables were eventually dispatched to the Northup's home and they found the man who was going door to door knocking.
He was questioned and released after figuring out he was a legit salesman.
Northup says he is just thankful it was not a real emergency.
"I thought, you know what, if this was a life-threatening situation, that's unacceptable," he said.
Mark Herman with Precinct 4 says the system is a Harris County system and he is going to get to the bottom of the issue and figure out why the address was not listed. Herman says he will work to make sure the issue is fixed.
