Police find chase suspect reading the Bible in bed

Suspect driving car that was reported stolen

HOUSTON – A routine traffic stop ended up anything but routine for Spring Valley Village police late Wednesday night.

Just after 11p.m., an officer tried to pull over a car for a traffic violation on the Katy Freeway and Campbell Road.

Officials said the driver refused to stop and led police on a lengthy chase.

Police said during the chase, the officer ran the license plate on the back of the car and it came back stolen.

The suspected car thief eventually bailed out of the car on West Mount Houston near Trailridge Forest in northwest Harris County. He left his car door open when he jumped out of the car.

Officials said the chase suspect got away temporarily.

Harris County deputies and Department of Public Safety officers were called in to help set up a perimeter. They eventually found the theft suspect inside a house lounging on a bed and reading a Bible.

The man was arrested.

Investigators said the home may belong to the suspect.
