Police: father killed in carjacking

Deputies: Victim was coming home from fast-food run

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A minister was killed in an apartment complex parking lot after returning home from a fast-food restaurant Saturday morning, deputies said.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Desmond Jones, 21, a father of two little girls, was returning to the Shadow Ridge Apartments on Old Walters Road and Spears at about 1:20 a.m.

Deputies said Jones was parking his car at the complex when two men approached him and shot him twice. He was flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

"The tragic loss of an innocent, young, Christian, working father and husband," said Bishop James Dixon with the Community of Faith Church. "We're dealing with an innocent man losing his life at the hands of perpetrators who must be caught."

Dixon led a prayer vigil with neighbors and other area pastors Saturday night, pleading for the arrest of Jones' killers.

"Every time one of these acts of violence is committed, you leave behind hurting people, like your own mother, like your own wife, like your own children, like your own relatives," Dixon said. "This is unacceptable and intolerable."

Deputies said the killers stole the victim's rental car -- a silver, 2012 Chrysler 300 with the license plate number DS1L815.

Anyone who sees the car is to assume the occupants are armed and dangerous, but is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
