One suspect shot dead by deputy after police chase in NE Houston

Two other males were detained by authorities; deputies could be seen collecting cash from the ground

HOUSTON – One bank robbery suspect is dead and another wounded after a police pursuit in northeast Houston.

Around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities said they responded to a bank robbery at the Wells Fargo at 9511 North Sam Houston Parkway.

The five male suspects fled the scene in a van, leading police on a chase. The suspects crashed into a barrier on a dead end street in the 9800 block of Ribbonwood and the vehicle ended up in a gully.

Deputies said two of the suspects then exited the van and pointed their weapons at the deputies.

"One of the suspects fired toward the deputies. Deputies fired back, striking both suspects who were running," said Deputy Thomas Gilliland with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

One suspect was killed, while another was wounded and transported via ambulance to the hospital.

The other three suspects fled into a wooded area. From Sky 2, two of the suspects could be seen dumping cash on the ground.

All three suspects were taken into custody. Deputies said three weapons were recovered.

"It ended well. We got some suspects off the streets and our deputies are fine and they're going home," said Gilliland.

Officers could be seen later gathering the cash that the suspects abandoned.

A woman was injured during the chase when a vehicle involved in the pursuit crashed into her car. Officials said that woman was three months pregnant and was taken to the hospital complaining of pain. No word yet on her condition.
