Mayor Parker to celebrate Women's Month

CYPRESS, Texas – Houston's Mayor Annise Parker will present "From Dreams to Reality" on March 26th at a free Lone Star College-CyFair community event to celebrate Women's Month.

The event will be held at 7 p.m. in LSC-CyFair's Main Stage Theater at 9191 Barker Cypress.

As Houston's 61st mayor and one of only two women to hold the city's highest elected office, Parker is responsible for all aspects of the general management of the city and for enforcement of all laws and ordinances.

Prior to becoming mayor in 2010, she spent six years as city council member and six years as city controller. She is the only person in Houston history to hold the offices of council member, controller and mayor. Her presentation describes her journey of becoming the city's mayor.

Linda Good, a member of the LSCS Board of Trustees, will lead the preamble of the event that is being sponsored by the Women's Month and Pride Week planning committees.

LSC-CyFair is showcasing "Women in Power!" with a variety of events throughout March in celebration of annual Women's Month. Other activities include a suit drive benefiting Dress For Success® Houston, a gallery exhibition; and author Dr. John Matteson, who will discuss his book "The Lives of Margaret Fuller." An information fair will also be offered on March 19th, featuring area women's organizations and a career preparation day with a makeup artist.
