Man hospitalized after northwest Harris County fire

Fire destroyed 2 garages, car

HOUSTON – Two buildings were destroyed and a man was hurt after a fast-moving fire in northwest Harris County.

The fire started at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in a garage that was converted into a storage shed on Plum Ridge Drive and Gessner Road.

When Cy-Fair firefighters arrived, flames were shooting from the structure and had spread to a neighboring garage.

The man who owned the storage shed tried to get inside to remove some of his belongings, but he was overcome by smoke. He was taken to Cy-Fair Hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation.

Both structures were a total loss, according to firefighters. A car that was inside the shed was also destroyed.

The Harris County Fire Marshal took over the investigation and will determine the cause.
