Homeowner shot, killed during burglary

2 teens arrested, 1 wanted

HOUSTON – A homeowner died after he interrupted a burglary in his northwest Harris County home, investigators said.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said three teenagers targeted a home at 12227 Auronia Drive that had its garage door open.  Deputies said the teens were attempting to steal things inside the garage, when the homeowner, 32-year-old LaMarque Samuels, heard the commotion and confronted them.

One of the teens demanded Samuels hand over the keys to his vehicle, investigators said. Samuels turned to go inside the house and was shot, deputies said.

"One of the suspects was armed with a handgun," Sgt. Robert Spurgeon said.  "He discharged his firearm, and shot and killed (Samuels)."

Neighbors called 911 after hearing the shots and seeing the suspects drive away.  Deputies in the area spotted the getaway car and chased it to the northeast part of the county.

"The vehicle stopped and the subjects bailed out," said Spurgeon.  "Two were apprehended but one is still at large."

A description of the wanted teen has not been released.

The names of the apprehended teens were not released. Deputies said they are both 16 years old and have been charged with capital murder.
