Family pleads for help to find 74-year-old's killer

HOUSTON – There is a new push to find out who killed a 74-year-old man in northwest Harris County.

The family of Maglorio Cortes gathered with detectives on Monday to urge anyone to help solve this case.

Cortes was gunned down while walking in the 11000 block of Springsong about 6 p.m. on Nov. 7.

"Some evil doers thought nothing about taking his life," Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia said.

Cortes was a retired welder.  He left behind a wife, six children and nine grandchildren.

"It's so hard. We never imagined we would have to do something like this. It's unfair," granddaughter Leslie Cortes said.

Witnesses told investigators they heard a series of gunshots the night of the slaying, and they saw a 2010 or 2011 dark red or maroon four-door Chevy Cruz leaving the scene. Several men were in that vehicle, witnesses said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
