Family dispute blamed for shooting in NW Harris Co.

Deputies: Victim was critically injured.

HARRIS COUNTY - A man had to be flown to the hospital after deputies say he was shot during a dispute with a family member at a northwest Harris County home.

Investigators spent the morning talking to people in the neighborhood. Overnight residents were awaken by the sounds of gunfire and later LifeFlight landing in the 5300 of Rivergate Drive. A 20-year-old man was rushed to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition.

Investigators say the shooting happened during a family argument.

Sources say the man was acting bizarre even dangerous, when he was shot by a family member in self-defense. A neighbor who is helping the family said no one in the home wanted to talk.

"It was disturbance. They're just trying to cope with what happened. That's all," said one neighbor.

Investigators say the weapon used in the shooting was recovered inside the home.

Authorities questioned two of the victim's relatives inside the home but no one has been taken into custody or charged with any crime.

The shooting victim was rushed into surgery early Monday morning. Investigators tell us he is expected to survive.
