Downed power line thwarts firefighting efforts

CHANNELVIEW, Texas – Firefighters faced several challenges while battling a house fire in Channelview.

Around 11:30 p.m., the fire department responded to a house fire at Woodland Street and Ridlon Street.  When they arrived, they found a two-story home on fire, with heavy flames and smoke pouring from the second floor.

While they were fighting the fire, power lines near the house snapped from the heat and fell onto one of the fire trucks.  They could not use the truck while the line was across it and had to drop its water supply, which slowed down the firefighting effort.

CenterPoint Energy crews arrived and removed the downed line from the truck.

The fire department said no one was home at the time of the fire, and no one was injured; however, the house suffered extensive damage.

The Harris County Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
