Dog trapped, killed in house fire

HOUSTON – Firefighters desperately tried to save a dog's life after it became trapped in a house fire in west Harris County.

Around 11:45 p.m. Friday, the West I-10 Fire Department responded to a fire at a home on Park Wick Lane near Park Bud Lane.  When they arrived, they found heavy smoke billowing from the front door of the house.

Firefighters said they found the fire coming from the back bedroom of the house, made a fast attack, and were able to put the flames out quickly.

According to firefighters, the homeowner managed to escape the house when they arrived.  However, she told them her small dog was still inside.

Firefighters said when they found the dog, it wasn't breathing.  They tried to resuscitate the dog, but it died.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
