Deputies question teen after 83-year-old found shot to death

Otis James found dead in chair in Highlands home

HIGHLANDS, Texas – A 19-year-old person of interest in the death of an 83-year-old Highlands man was questioned by deputies on Tuesday.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said Otis James was found dead in a chair inside a home on South 4th Street near Avenue C in Highlands. Investigators said he had been shot multiple times and there were no signs of forced entry into the home.

Harris County sheriff's deputies also quickly realized the victim's 2012 white Ford F-150 crew cab truck was missing. It was found abandoned several miles away, deputies said.

The motive for the killing is still unknown.

Detectives named Randy Segura, 19, as a person of interest in the case. He was taken into custody on Tuesday.
