Chase suspect found hiding at car dealership

HARRIS COUNTY – A man is in custody after leading authorities on a chase across northwest Harris County.

A Harris County sheriff's deputy tried to pull the man over for a traffic violation at Gessner Road and Hammerly Boulevard, but he took off and led authorities for 30 minutes on a high-speed chase.

"The subject refused to stop in a traffic stop and led the officer on a pursuit from there all the way up to 249 at high rates of speed," said Lt. T. Kaiser with Harris County Precinct 1.

Authorities said the driver's speed hovered between 90 and 120 mph.

Officials said the suspect drove on highways and side streets through several neighborhoods before crashing his car in front of the Parkway Chevrolet dealership.

Deputies said the driver took off running, leaving a woman behind in the car.

A K9 unit picked up the trail and led authorities to the man, who was hiding in the bed of a pickup truck in the dealership parking lot.

Deputies arrested him and took the woman to the hospital to be checked out.

According to deputies, the man has outstanding felony warrants and now faces felony evasion charges.
