Carjacking leads to police chase; suspect escapes

HOUSTON – A carjacking turned into a police chase in southwest Harris County.

Around 11:00 p.m. Wednesday, police said a man held up a homeowner at gunpoint on Lobera Drive and Valinda Drive.  The thief then drove off with the homeowner's Dodge Charger, detectives said.

The homeowner called 911 and Ford Bend County sheriff's deputies started looking for the stolen car.

Investigators said one deputy saw the car and tried to pull it over, but the driver sped off.  The deputy chased the driver east on Bellaire Boulevard and continued following him until the he caught up with the vehicle on Dashwood Drive and Jetty Lane, officials said.

By the time the deputy found the car, the driver had already jumped out and fled on foot.
