2 dead, 2 injured in overnight crash during bad weather

Witness says car was traveling at a normal speed when it ran off the road

HARRIS COUNTY – Two people are dead after a late night crash in northwest Harris County.

The crash happened on Veterans Memorial near Camden Parkway around 10 p.m. Monday.

Lucy Soto was driving behind the blue Ford Mustang  that ended up crashing in a ditch.

"As if something just came out and pushed that car, it went into the ditch," Soto told Local 2. " I ran over and asked them if they were OK but no one was responding."

Little York firefighters and paramedics showed up minutes later and had to cut part of the car open to get to the trapped victims.

Investigators said two people died at the scene, but the driver and another passenger were rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital with critical injuries.

As for the cause, it's unclear right now exactly what happened, but Soto said the roads were wet and the car she saw go off the road was not speeding at the time of the crash.

"We were going 35 (mph) or maybe a little higher -- a normal speed," Soto explained.

The names of those involved in the crash were not immediately released.
