Race for mayor leads to runoffs

Galveston and Conroe still battling for mayor

HOUSTON – The battle for mayor continues in two southeast Texas cities. 

In Saturday's election in Galveston, current Mayor Joe Jaworski got 39 percent of the vote while his challenger Lewis Rosen lead with 44 percent. The two men will be in a runoff on June 16.

In Conroe, Mayor Webb Melder lead with just over 44 percent of the vote.  Challenger Toby Powell finished second with a little more than 29 percent of the vote. A date for the Conroe runoff has not been announced yet.
