Man who left kids unattended when boy shot child arrested

TEXAS CITY, Texas – The man who police say left three children unattended in an apartment where one of them shot another in the face after finding a gun has turned himself in to authorities.

Texas City police say on Aug. 7 Marcus Allen Garrett left three small children -- ages 7, 8 and 9 -- alone in an apartment located at 8601 Emmett F Lowry Expressway. The 7-year-old found a pistol in the apartment and shot the 8-year-old in the face.

Responding officers say they also discovered a large amount of drugs within reach of the children in the apartment.

According to police, Garrett never returned to the apartment and avoided contact with the police. 

Garrett, 30, turned himself in and is in the Galveston County Jail. He is charged with manufacture and delivery of a controlled substance and abandoning/endangering a child. His total bond is set at $550,000.
