Son charged in Fort Bend County double murder

Fort Bend County Sheriff's office says suspect is couple's son

HOUSTON – A man arrested Friday in connection to a double murder in Fort Bend County has now been charged.

Investigators with the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Department charged 27 year old Ross Lawrence with two counts of murder.

Deputies say Lawrence is the son of the two victims who were identified as Steve and LaQuita Lawrence.

Fort Bend County investigators say the couple was murdered in the driveway of an upscale home in the gated community of Weston Lakes, west of Fulshear.

In the golf course community people aren't used to seeing crime scene tape, law enforcement officers and news helicopters.

"We live out here because it's quiet, it's away," said resident Randy Strain. "You're not really in the country but you're away from all of the noise."

Deputies say just before 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon a neighbor called 911 after hearing a woman scream. When they arrived they found the two bodies in the driveway off Watersmeet Street -- one of the community's main thoroughfares.

The suspect was taken to the hospital.

"He is at a local hospital," said Fort Bend County Sheriff Troy Nehls. "He is under guard right now and will be booked into the Fort Bend County Jail."

The last known murder in this neighborhood took place about eight years ago. It was described as a family-related incident. In a place where mainly families and white collar workers live and play golf -- these killings are a reminder that sometimes even gates aren't enough to keep away tragedy.

"It's all gated so it's pretty difficult to get into and it's pretty locked down," said Jamison Strain. "When you hear something like this, it just kind of goes to show anything can happen."

Investigators say the cause of death appear to be blunt force trauma.
