Deputies: Teen son of HPD officer shoots and kills home invader

HOUSTON – Authorities tell us the teenage son of a Houston police officer shot and killed a suspect during a home invasion in Fort Bend County.

It happened at around 3:15pm Friday at Manchester Point and Garrett Green in Fort Bend County.

Police say the son told them he was home alone when he heard someone trying to break into the house. He called his father, who's an HPD officer.

The teen was holding his father's gun upstairs while on the phone with his father when one of the suspects climbed the stairs towards the son. That's when the teen opened fire.

One of the suspects was killed. Authorities are searching for a second suspect.

Local 2 spoke with his father, who said he was proud of his 18-year-old son.

"Two unknown suspects entered our home without, you know, permission and my son, trying to defend his home and himself, he discharged my firearm, striking one of the suspects and one suspect fled," said HPD Officer K. Patmon.

When asked if his son has any interest in law enforcement, he told us his son is headed to the Air Force.
