Girl's mother faces charge of injury to a child by omission

WINNIE, Texas – A Chambers County man has been charged in the death of his 2-year-old stepdaughter.

Kristopher Redd, 23, was charged with capital murder on Sunday, according to the Chamber County Sheriff's Office.

Officials say around 9:15 a.m., deputies were called to the 200 block of West Elm in Winnie. Upon arrival, deputies found paramedics working to resuscitate the girl.

Officials said the girl was transported to Winnie Community Hospital where died.  

According to deputies, doctors reported previous signs of abuse to the toddler.

Redd, who was not at the home when deputies arrived, was later found, questioned and charged in the toddler's death.

Authorities said another child living at the home was placed in protective custody.

An autopsy performed on Monday found that the girl had internal and external injuries in various stages of healing.

On Thursday, the sheriff's office said based on the information from the autopsy, the girl's mother , Jennifer Lynn Poole, was arrested for a charge of injury to a child by omission.
