Firefighters respond to fire at church building next to Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart in downtown

HOUSTON – Firefighters battled an apparent fire at a church building in the downtown Houston area Monday morning.

The fire was reported at a building across from the Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart located in the 1900 block of San Jacinto Street, according to Houston Fire Department.

The building, which was seen boarded with plywood, was not in use at the time of the reported fire.

Firefighters believe squatters were involved in the fire, as several mattresses and bags were found.

No injuries have been reported.
