Man wanted for questioning in deadly shooting at southwest Houston apartment complex, police say

HOUSTON – A 23-year-old man is wanted for questioning after a woman’s ex-boyfriend was shot and killed in southwest Houston.

Mario Padilla, 23, has not been charged, but police said he is a “person of interest” in the case and is wanted for questioning.

On Jan. 21, Houston police responded to reports of a shooting at an apartment complex located in the 11600 block of West Bellfort Street around 12:25 a.m.

When officers arrived, they found a man shot to death in the apartment’s breezeway.

Witnesses told investigators that the victim went to the apartment to retrieve some items from his ex-girlfriend. When he arrived and started banging on the door, investigators said a man who was located inside of the apartment, opened the door and started shooting, striking the victim multiple times.

The man then fled the scene in a black Kia sedan, according to investigators.
