KPRC 2 Traffic Exclusive: Here is when the 59/610 connector ramps in the Galleria area will be fully open

HOUSTON – Mark your calendars for the weekend of October 29. That is when the second connector ramp at 59/610 in the Galleria area will reopen.

TxDOT revealed that new timeline exclusively to KPRC 2′s What’s Driving Houston.

Both the northbound and southbound connector ramps from the Southwest Freeway to the West Loop were closed in June.

The initial timeline for those closures was six to eight months. But now both will be open by the end of this month.

The southbound ramp that connects drivers from Greenway Plaza to the Galleria area reopened in September.

The northbound ramp that connects drivers from Fort Bend County and Sharpstown will reopen the final weekend of October.

Incentive for the contractor

Contractors are often offered incentives for finishing construction projects early. So how much did contractors working on the 59/610 project earn for getting the ramps reopened ahead of schedule?

TxDOT says, at this point, the total estimated incentives the contractor has completed amounts to just over $1,000,000.

More brake lights ahead

Those ramps were just part of a bigger project.

At some point, the main lines of 610 over the Southwest Freeway will be closed so the entire bridge can be reconstructed.

There’s nothing to mark on your calendar just yet. The schedule for that part of the project is still being ironed out with 2024 as the target date for completion.
