PEARLAND, Texas – Pearland police are investigating an arrest in Pearland that led to an officer using a taser on a driver.

An officer tried to stop Lewis, but she allegedly kept driving and finally pulled over a half a mile away on Discovery Bay Drive and Business Center Drive.

They said Lewis resisted and a second officer shot her with a taser.

During the traffic stop Lewis told officers that her brother had just been killed by police officers.

KPRC 2 spoke with a woman who identified herself as a relative of Lewis, who said Lewis is the sister of Deon Ledet.

Ledet is accused of shooting two Houston police officers Monday morning. One officer died from his injuries. Ledet was also killed in the shoot-out.

Officers arrested Lewis and she was charged with evading and resisting arrest. She was being held on a $26,000 bond.

The officers are still on duty. The traffic stop is under review.

Police released the officers’ body camera video Thursday afternoon in what they said is an effort to be as transparent as possible.

Eugene Howard with the Texas State NAACP sits on the Pearland Police Department’s advisory committee. Howard said he reviewed the video with top officers this morning.

“I stand 100 percent firmly behind what the Pearland Police Dept. did given the facts that we saw in the video,” Howard told KPRC 2. “I am not trying to give the police a pass here and I believe in accountability and transparency, but I don’t want to demonize the department if it doesn’t need to be demonized.”

Howard said he counted 67 times in which the officers attempted to de-escalate the situation.

“Ma’am get out of the car, ma’am put the car in park, ma’am stop so we can talk about it,” said Howard.

Lewis’ three-year-old son was in the back seat of the car during he traffic stop. At times throughout the video you could hear him crying. Police say a relative picked up the young boy from the scene.
