Local songwriters make 3 viral Astros-inspired songs

HOUSTON"Altuve!"

A song that is hilarious and fun. And so is the band leader Polish Pete. Polish Pete is the alter ego of Pete Gordon of the Continental Club.  As he says he loves polka, Jose Altuve and Frankie Yankovic (an accordion player).

The band I Hardly Know Her and Pete wrote and recorded the Altuve song last week.

It goes:

"He's not too short
"He's not too tall
"He comes to bat
"He hits the ball
"Let's all cheer, Altuve"

“We love Jose,” Pete said. “We've been rooting for Jose for so long. He's so good it just wrote itself.”

The song already has thousands of YouTube views. Pete said it got him World Series tickets seated next to Larry King –- he called Mr. McCrane a true polka lover.

His song even grabbed the attention of Jose himself.

“I didn’t get to meet him, but he heard the song and he says he loved it,” Pete said.

Pete said they are already working on a new Astros song for the team that should be out this week.

"Go, Go Astros" by Mack Hayes

Remember this one? Mack Hayes' song "Go, Go Astros" was played at the Astrodome during games through the 80s.

Now, his song has seen a resurgence.

“Sports talk shows started playing it and kind of brought it back out,” Hayes said.

Hayes is even making his rallying song available as a ring tone. He said a lot of people around town have it on their phones.

Hayes said the Astros no longer have a rallying song that the fans can sing all together. If the ‘Stros want to bring it back, Hayes is all for it.

To get a Mack Hayes "Go, Go Astros" ring tone -- it’s free. He said for fans to just contact him by email at mack@mackhayes.com

"Crush City" by Bun B

OK. This was a song Bun B put out last year and he got some bad love for it because the Astros did not win.

“People tried to latch on the fact of us doing a song and blame that for the team losing,” Bun B said.

But he said people got that one wrong.

“You can actually look up every time a team has had me out, they never lose,” Bun B said. “They actually win which is why the teams have me out.”

A big supporter of Houston, Bun B has decided not to release any of his new music until after the New Year. He felt with Harvey, everyone needed to focus on getting the city back on its feet.

I asked if there’ll be a future Astros song -- like when they bring home World Series win.

Bun B is going to keep us guessing.

“I may do one, I may not,” Bun B said. “I just want to see them win and go to a ticker tape parade.”
