Local 2 Investigates analyzed campus crime data for Houston area schools

By Jace Larson - Investigative Reporter

HOUSTON - Burglaries are the most common crimes reported at area college campuses, according to Local 2 Investigates review of five-years worth of crime data.

Whether it is a burglary, murder or a motor vehicle theft, all offenses on college and university campuses are required to be reported to the Department of Education as part of a law known as the Clery Act.

Local 2 investigates gathered data on campus offenses from 2008 – 2013 for seven Houston area schools: the University of Houston, Texas Southern University, Rice University, Prairie View A & M University, Lone Star Community College, Houston Community College, and the University of St. Thomas.

Investigative reporter Jace Larson will break down how many crimes are happening at each campus tonight at 10 p.m. on Local 2. Also, hear why the chief of police at one university says the numbers can be deceiving.
