HOUSTON – One man was charged in connection with a crash that killed a man Monday in north Houston.
Ruben Garcia, 21, is charged with intoxication manslaughter and two counts of intoxicated assault after police said witnesses told them Garcia was driving at a high rate of speed around 3:40 a.m. Monday when he ran a red light and slammed into a car.

Police said Garcia was driving a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck east on Little York and ran a red light at the intersection of East Hardy Toll Road. Garcia struck a blue Volkswagen Passat that was traveling north on Hardy attempting to make a left turn onto Little York.
According to police, Garcia lost control of the pickup truck and slammed into a guardrail east of the intersection.
Garcia was taken to a hospital. His condition is unknown. A male passenger in the pickup truck died at the scene, police said.
There were two female passengers in the Volkswagen who were taken to Memorial Hermann Northwest Hospital. Their condition is unknown. The driver of the car was taken to Lyndon B. Johnson hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to police.
Police determined Garcia was impaired at the time of the crash.
Lanes were closed in both directions in the 1400 block of Little York Road as police investigated, but reopened just before 6 a.m.
