KATY, Texas - A lifeguard is dead after investigators say he drowned at a community pool in Cinco Ranch.
People who spoke with Local 2, but didn't want to talk on camera, said the lifeguard was playing around in the pool before drowning.
About three hours after the 19-year-old drowned, there were no signs that a college freshman had lost his life.
"I saw three or four police cars" said Ranjit Rebello.
People in the neighborhood said they saw and heard sirens at the pool but didn't know what happened.
"I thought that the lifeguards were always in control when I was there, so I didn't think a lifeguard," said Rebello. "I thought maybe someone else, maybe a kid fell in and drown."
The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office told Local 2 the drowning appeared to be an accident.
The owner of the pool company that manages the pool, Houston Recreation Management told Local 2:
"Regretfully, we did lose someone at our pool today. We don't believe it was the result of a drowning. We believe there may have been some other health issue involved. The family has been notified. The investigation is ongoing." - Houston Recreation Management
Investigators said the lifeguard had just graduated from Seven Lakes High School and was planning to go to college in the fall.
