FORT BEND COUNTY - Officials do not know what caused a 19-year-old lifeguard to drown in a Cinco Ranch swimming pool over the weekend.

The Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office deputies said they responded to a drowning at the Rosewood Recreation Center around 4 p.m. Saturday in the 26400 block of Cinco Terrace Drive.

Deputies said upon arrival, lifeguards at the pool were performing CPR on the victim, Dustin Kruthaupt, who was also a lifeguard at the pool.

Kruthaupt was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital – Katy where he later died.

Witnesses told authorities that Kruthaupt was swimming laps in the pool and at one point attempted to swim the length of the pool underwater. Officials said lifeguards saw him surface and began floating. He was immediately dragged out of the water and CPR was started.

Authorities said foul play was not evident to responding deputies.

An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the exact cause of death.
