A League City couple faces charges of a starving a 4-year-old girl

LEAGUE CITY, Texas – A League City couple is facing charges and accused of intentionally starving a 4-year-old child. A probable cause affidavit shows that the child, at one point, weighed 19 pounds.

League City Police arrested the child's father and stepmother earlier this week. Daniel Jason Stone and Gemma Jones Stone are each facing a felony count of injury to a child.

Documents show that a physician with UTMB in Galveston first raised concerns that the little girl was underweight for her age in March of 2017. In July 2018, reports show that the 4-year-old child weighed 19 pounds, which is the weight of a 1 or 2-year-old child.

The report states that the child missed hospital visits and the parents neglected to give her supplemental nutrition drinks. The parents claimed the child, “would refuse to eat” or “vomit after eating.” According to an investigator with the Department of Family and Protective Services, teachers and grandparents described the child as “ravenous” and would “eat everything and more.” The investigator concluded in the report it appeared the child was being intentionally starved by the Stones.

According to police, Daniel Stone gave the grandparents custody of the child in October. Documents show that the child is now “thriving” and weighs 32 pounds.
