Leaders of Houston area marijuana grow house group sentenced to federal prison

Three leaders have eight grow houses in suburbs

HOUSTON – Three people behind eight marijuana grow houses in the Houston area have been sentenced to federal prison.

on Thursday, Quang Nguyen, 50, was sentenced to 120 months in prison. Last week, Phuc Tran, 44, and his wife, Thuy Tran, 44, were sentenced to 87 and 72 months in prison respectively.

The three suspects were leaders of clandestine marijuana grow cells, with eight grow houses in Houston area suburbs.

Investigators said the grow houses began in March 2014. The investigation led to the seizure of more than 2600 marijuana plants and 80 pounds of hydroponic marijuana buds in April 2015.

Multiple agencies took part in the investigation, including the Drug Enforcement Administration, Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Task Force, Harris County Sheriff's Office and Houston Police Department.
