Landry's restaurant delivers pizza to first responders

He 'is an amazing human being,' HPD chief says of Landry's CEO

HOUSTONAcross Houston, first responders didn't hesitate to answer the call to help thousands of people who were stranded because of Harvey.

As officers worked around the clock, chef's at La Griglia, a Landry's Group restaurant, cooked 900 pizzas to keep the men and women in blue full.

"I have volunteers that I know had water damage that are employees at Landry's that are delivering pizzas today to first responders, so what does that tell you?" said Landry's chairman, CEO and well known businessman Tilman Fertitta. "It's amazing not only how this community has come together, but how Wall Street and all across the country, so these people can get back quicker, and it makes you proud as a city and state and a nation."

Houston Police Department
Cheif Art Acevedo was overwhelmed by the warm gesture and went to thank Fertitta, giving him a big hug and getting emotional.

"He's the man -- he loves cops," Acevedo said. "I've only been here for nine months, but I feel like he's a brother. The guy is just an amazing human being."

Acevedo said he found out who was delivering the pizza after someone passed the information to him while he was working.
