LA PORTE, Texas - Fresh off his first runner-up finish on "The Voice," La Porte's Jake Worthington is still trying to process that experience.

It was an incredible ride for the 18-year-old who made the most of his second chance on the show.

"This whole experience has brought multiple things that have meant the world to me," Worthington said in an interview at his home.

Worthington said he was overwhelmed by the support given by his hometown. One of the first things he did when he returned home was hop in his pickup truck and hang out with his friends who'd been in his life well before his run on the show.

"We went fishing, caught some good fish," Worthington said. "I met a lot of good people, made newer friends and just stayed with the good old guys that's treated me good."

His parents, Bubba and Wendy, also are trying to return to normal after seeing their son perform on a national show next to the likes of Blake Shelton and legendary group Alabama.

"I can't wait to sit down and just watch what we DVR'd just because I want that experience," said Wendy. "What he experienced and everyone that supported him experienced."

"We had a blast," said Bubba. "If he had the chance to do it again I'd say, 'Let's do it again.'"

Worthington's next step is a summer tour with other "Voice" favorites. He said he then plans to pack up his pickup and head to Nashville to carve out a career singing the music he loves.

"It's going to be a Texas country feel, you know," said Worthington. "I want to have the traditional type subtlety to it, that 90s era of country music."

"The Voice" summer tour kicks off in San Antonio in a few weeks with a stop in Houston at the Bayou Music Center on June 23. But Worthington has one more important milestone before he goes on tour. He'll be graduating from La Porte High School next Friday.
