LA PORTE, Texas - A 9-year-old La Porte girl will be featured in the National Down Syndrome Society's annual Times Square video presentation.

Society officials said the photo of Ella Shyrie-Grace Armstrong, who happens to have Down syndrome, was selected from more than 2,000 entries in the society's worldwide call for photos.

Almost 500 photographs will appear in the video, society officials said.

"The featured photographs highlight children, teens and adults with Down syndrome, reminding the world in a very big way about the contributions and milestones of people with Down syndrome," the society said. "These collective images promote the value, acceptance and inclusion of people with Down syndrome."

Society officials said Ella is pictured above with her silver medal received from her first-ever Junior Special Olympics event.

The Times Square video presentation, will be followed by the 23rd Annual Flagship Buddy Walk in New York City, kicks off Down Syndrome Awareness Month in October, society officials said.
