K-9 unit tracks down home invasion suspect hiding in field near elementary school

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A 19-year-old, who a woman recognized as the suspect who broke into her home, was captured by a K-9 officer after trying to run and hide, according to Harris County Sheriff's deputies.

The woman spotted Kevin Cruz-Flores at a gas station in the 15500 block of Kuykendahl Road. on Wednesday afternoon and confronted him, deputies said.

The woman told Cruz-Flores that she knew he was the person who broke into her home through her patio door on March 20 and warned him not to come around her building again.

The woman said Cruz-Flores began arguing with her, then pulled out a gun and threatened to have someone kill her.

The woman said Cruz-Flores stepped back, raised his shirt and displayed a black colored pistol. She ran to her vehicle and dialed 911.

As a deputy was arriving to the scene, Cruz-Flores ran toward a wooded field directly behind the station.

A perimeter was set up, and other deputies arrived, along with a K-9 unit and a helicopter.

Deputies began searching the wooded area, which is also located near an elementary school. The school was placed on temporary lockdown during the search.

The K-9, Bailey, found Cruz-Flores hiding along a brush line.

The suspect was ordered to come out and show his hands, but refused all commands. K-9 Bailey was deployed and was able to bring him under control.

Cruz-Flores was then taken into custody.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and Cruz-Flores' bond was set at $35,000.
