HOUSTON - A week ago, Channel 2 Investigates reported on Jim Murphy, an elected state representative working for another government agency as general manager of the Westchase District.
As we revealed, Murphy has had a fixed-fee contract for years.
His latest contract pays him over $312,000 a year.
In addition, he can earn bonuses by securing state funding for Westchase projects.
The arrangement appears to violate the state law prohibiting an elected official from holding another government job.
Prior to our initial interview, Murhphy has tried to avoid our cameras.
Since our reports, he has taken to social media to say our report was a “salacious hit piece" and an attempt to smear him.
Channel 2 investigator Mario Diaz invited Murphy for a sit-down interview anytime, anywhere.
Murphy has yet to respond.
Following our reports, nationally recognized ethics attorney Buck Wood, of Austin, said, “This whole idea of being an independent contractor is just, in my opinion, is totally and completely, it’s just a sham.”
