Intruder shot during violent home invasion in northwest Harris County

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A home invasion ended in a shootout in Wednesday in northwest Harris County.

Police said the homeowner came home from work around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday and three men ambushed and pistol-whipped him. Then they broke into his house ordered the man's wife and two children ages 5 and 6 to get on the ground.

According to investigators, the homeowner got a gun and started shooting at the three men, who shot back before driving away in a pickup truck.

Officers said they later found the pickup at a nearby apartment complex and possibly one of the suspected robbers.

"About 30 minutes later, we received a report of a male at the hospital off 249, who had been shot. We believe it's the suspect from this shooting. He's been transported to Memorial Hermann in critical condition and is expected to survive," Houston Police Lt. Larry Crowson said.

Neighbors said the incident makes them very nervous.

"All of a sudden we heard a round like, 'Pop, pop, pop!' My mom hollered 'Get down, get down!' so we all got down trying to get the grandkids down. My mom has heart problems and her heart monitor fell out and she hurt her knee," neighbor Andrea Cage said. "It was just chaotic and we all got on the ground until the shots stopped."

None of the other family member were injured.

Police said they found the robbers pickup truck and also found one of the three wanted. They said that person was shot and taken into custody.

Anyone with information about the robbery or the whereabouts of the other two men involved is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
