HOUSTON – Hundreds showed up for the Turn Out for Texas voter registration rally Monday at White Oak Music Hall.
Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke spoke at the rally after two other speaking engagements in Houston.
Valerie Meisel showed up several hours early to hear the bands perform before Beto took the stage.
“The atmosphere is great, but I’m here tonight because Beto is the future of the country and he’s the future of Texas,” she said.
With all eyes on the Texas Senate race between Ted Cruz and O’Rourke, many said they feel the drive to get involved in the political process.
“People are ready to get active, they are ready to get registered and ready to vote and exercise their constitutional right," Houston rapper Bun B said.
The liberal Democrat addressed several topics including universal health care and immigration reform. He also urged the crowd to get to the polls.
“On the day that you can vote, you must vote," O’Rourke said.
O’Rourke made several appearances in the Houston area on Monday including Lone Star College and in Cypress.
Cruz supporters also kicked off a massive get out the vote drive aimed at reaching 5.5 million potential voters between now and Election Day.
Tuesday marks four weeks until the midterm elections.
