HOUSTON - A woman claims she accidentally shot her roommate to death after an argument at their home in northwest Houston, police said.

Around 10 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a 911 call regarding a shooting at a home on Friendship Road near Ojeman Road. When they arrived, police said they found a man's body inside the house.

According to reports, the 46-year-old man was shot once in the chest.

Houston police said the woman inside the home, who initially called 911, was the victim's roommate.

According to police, the woman told officers she was upset with the victim because he allegedly had another woman at the house earlier in the day.

The woman told police she was going to move out of the house, and while she was collecting her belongings, which included the shotgun, the gun accidentally went off, hitting the man.

"When she contacted 911, she advised that the shooting was accidental," said Brian Evans with the Houston Police Department Homicide Division. "So far, upon our initial contact with her, that was her claim as well."

Houston police said they took the woman into custody for additional questioning and to determine whether charges will be filed.

Names of those involved were not immediately released.

Anyone with information in this case should call the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
