HPD: Teen killed in shooting near school parking lot in SW Houston

HOUSTON - A teenager was killed in a shooting near an elementary school parking lot in southwest Houston.

The shooting happened around 8 p.m. Wednesday in the 5900 block of Westward at Benavidez Elementary School. 

According to Houston police, when they arrived they found the 17-year-old dead by a fence near the school parking lot. He has not been identified.

Police said the victim was walking north on Westward when a gray or silver four-door sedan drove by and someone inside fired several shots.

The suspect's vehicle is possibly an early 2000 Chevrolet Malibu or Impala.

While police were investigating they heard gunshots and found a 16-year-old shot in the left leg. He was taken to an area hospital. His condition has not been released.

Investigators said the incidents may have been gang-related.

The suspects remain on the loose.
