HOUSTON - A store owner died after he was shot while closing in southeast Houston, according to Houston police.

Police said a store owner and his wife were closing a CT Food Mart on Yellowstone Boulevard and England Street just before 10 p.m. Friday.

Several black men ambushed him and opened fire, hitting him in the head, police said. The victim has been identified as Kenneth Flemings, 59.

According to officials, his wife was just feet away, sitting in their vehicle.

The man was rushed to the hospital, where he later died, according to police.

The motive for the shooting is still unknown, but investigators believe the crooks thought the owner had a money bag.

The gunmen are still on the run.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Houston Police Department's Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (8477).
