HOUSTON - Houston police captured two suspected robbers after a tense SWAT standoff in Kingwood.

Police said the men started their crime spree at a Walgreens on Kingwood Drive around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Authorities said the men robbed the store and employees inside at gunpoint.

After the robbery, witnesses said the robbers got into a silver Chevy Silverado and drove off.

Less than 25 minutes after robbing the Walgreens, officers said the duo robbed the CVS store about three blocks away.

Patrol officers searching for the pickup found it in front of a home on Plateau Court.

"As officers set up a perimeter, both suspects ran out the back of the residence," said HPD spokesman Victor Senties.

According to police, one suspected robber was caught in the backyard, but the other went into the home and refused to come out.

The SWAT team was called and after hours of negotiating, the officers forced their way into the home using tear gas and took the suspect into custody.

Officials said one officer was bitten by a police dog during the standoff. He was taken to an area hospital with lacerations.

The names of the men arrested were not released.
