HOUSTON - Houston police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in southeast Houston.
The shooting happened shortly after 8:30 a.m. near Ledbetter Street and Fairlawn Street. Officers responded to a disturbance at the location. A man reportedly had a weapon and was assaulting a female victim.
When officers arrived, they spotted the man in the middle of the street, aggressively pushing and shoving the woman.
The responding officers gave verbal commands to the suspect to drop his weapon, but he refused, police say.
According to police, the suspect pointed the gun at the officers and started walking toward them, again ignoring verbal commands to drop his weapon.
Officer R. Mesa discharged his weapon, striking the suspect. Mesa is assigned to southeast patrol and has been with Houston police for nine years.
The suspect was transported to Ben Taub Hospital in unknown condition. The female victim was transported to Memorial Hermann in unknown condition.
