HPD: No charges filed in Kingwood baby death investigation

KINGWOOD, Texas - Houston police are investigating the death of a baby after the child went into cardiac arrest at a home in Kingwood.

The Houston Fire Department was called before 2:35 p.m. Friday to the 2100 block of Little Cedar for a baby in cardiac arrest.

When medics arrived, they immediately called for police and took the toddler to the hospital, where police said the baby was pronounced dead.

Houston police identified the victim as 16-month-old Raimya Mouton.

At the time, police said a male caregiver was at home with the child. Officials said when others arrived is when the 911 call was made.

Neighbors told Local 2 they heard some commotion at the house.

"I heard the sirens," said Tyler Miller, who lives down the street and says he saw a lot of police responding to the scene.

Miller also said the couple who lives in the home had a small child, around one or two years old, and they were often seen walking the neighborhood and going to the park. Miller believes they moved in about a year ago.

Houston police said the caregiver was detained and released pending autopsy results.

The investigation continues with no charges filed at this time.
