HOUSTON - Houston police were looking for a burglar that broke into at least three vehicles parked in the Montrose area overnight.

A couple first spotted the thief while walking back to their car after going out to dinner.

"He was standing in between my car and his car," said Leigh Ann Hood, whose car was broken into just after midnight. "I yelled 'hey,' and he took off."

Hood told police that the man was alone, driving a white Chevy Malibu.

When she walked closer to the car, Hood saw that the burglar had broken one of her rear windows.

"I started chasing after him," said Tom McCumber, Hood's friend. "My other friend, she drove up at that time, so we went and got the cop."

A Precinct 1 deputy constable was patrolling the area when the group flagged him down to help.

Officers set up a perimeter in the area, but weren't able to find the suspect.

The burglar left his own car at the scene of the break-in.
