HOUSTON - A woman was shot and killed by her son in their southwest Houston townhome, Houston police said Thursday.
Investigators said the shooting happened at 9:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 3200 block of Los Palmas Drive, where Reyna Rogers, 50, lived with her two adult sons.
"One of the brothers shot the mother eight times in the chest area. There was also a dog and a cat that were shot," said Capt. James Dale with the Houston Police Department.
Rogers died at Ben Taub Hospital.
Police said one of the brothers, James Allen Rogers, 26, confessed to pulling the trigger. He has been charged with murder.
"Numerous weapons were found in the upstairs closet," Dale said.
James Rogers' brother, Joseph, was inside the home at the time of the shooting but managed to get out unharmed.
"I ran away before I didn't want to get shot," Joseph Rogers said. "There was nothing else I could do. (James) was too far from me to do anything, so I just ran."
Joseph Rogers said his brother has been home for about two years after serving on the frontlines in Iraq, but he never got acclimated to civilian life.
"Just family tension ... my brother started fire shots," Joseph Rogers said. "He's an Army vet and had a bad time this past semester. He totaled his car and couldn't go to school ... just made the situation worse."
Police said they do not yet have a motive.
