HOUSTON - A man is dead after a high-speed chase through southeast Houston early Friday morning, police said.

An officer tried to pull over a Lincoln Town Car which was going suspiciously slow on Dover Street, according to investigators.

The driver refused to stop and sped away, according to HPD.

Police said once the 22-year-old driver turned off Dover onto Moline Street, he lost control near the intersection of Poplar Road.

Officials said the man hit a speed hump and slammed into a bank of oak trees on the side of the road.

Video showed the force of the crash tore a hole in the driver's side of the car.

First responders said the driver was ejected from the car.  He was rushed to Ben Taub General Hospital where he later died.

Police said it is unclear why the did not stop.

Officials said the car the man was driving was registered to him, but had fake plates.

The victim's name was not immediately released.
