HOUSTON - A Houston police officer was injured, when investigators said he was hit by a car, said police.

Around 2 a.m. Saturday, Houston police received a call that gun shots were fired in the parking lot of a night club on Wilcrest near Harwin.

When officers arrived, they began to clear out the parking lot. That's when police said a man got in his vehicle and ran one of the officers over.

The officer received minor injuries to his knee and arm and was taken to the hospital. Police chased the suspect into a nearby neighborhood and a K-9 unit caught him.

As one of the patrols was responding to shots being fired, investigators said they were flagged down by some people at Wilcrest and Village Bend, because they said someone was shot in the head during a drive-by shooting

"This vehicle was driving south bound on Wilcrest when another vehicle began shooting at them," said Sargent Odom with the Houston police Department.

The passenger in the car was shot in the head, officials said. They had just left the same night club, where it was reported shots were fired.

"They were all leaving the same area, there was a huge crowd at that location," said Odom.

Officers believe the gunman may have been in a gold Camry, but took off before cops arrived. Now people who live in the area are on high alert.

"Who would have thought it would have happened so close to home," said Tyre Ellis, who lives nearby. He said it's especially scary because there are a lot of kids who live in the neighborhood.

"Kids that live right there, in my apartment, right there, they play all day, it is crazy," said Ellis.

The shooting victim was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. Houston police are working to see if both of these crimes are connected.
