HPD: Girl, 13, uses knife to threaten home invader

HOUSTON - Police released a sketch Thursday of a man wanted in connection with a northeast Houston home invasion in which children were home alone.

Houston police said a man knocked on a door in the 3500 block of Vintage in the Kashmere Gardens neighborhood on Oct. 6. A 13-year-old girl and her two younger brothers were the only ones home at the time, officials said.

The girl did not open the door. Investigators said the man then went to the back door and knocked again. The girl did not open the door.

Detectives said the man tried to knock down the back door, but he was not successful. He then went back to the front door and forced it open, police said.

Investigators said the 13-year-old grabbed a butcher knife. The man grabbed her arm and she raised the knife to defend herself, detectives said.

The man then ran out of the home. He was seen running northbound on West Huntington. He then crossed a bridge over Hunting Bayou and ran eastbound, police said.

The man was described as black, in his late 20s and about 5 feet 11 inches tall with a thin build.
