HPD: Firefighter, wife die in murder-suicide

Police: Man called 911 claiming to have killed his wife

HOUSTON - A retired Houston firefighter and his wife were found dead inside their southeast Houston home.

Houston police said the man, identified as Eugene Scott, called 911 at about 11:50 p.m. Friday and claimed to have killed his wife.

When officers arrived at their home on Glenheath and Ruthby, they said the man had barricaded himself inside the house with his wife.

Police called in SWAT officers, but negotiators were never able to make contact with the man.

The team sent in a robotic camera to check out the home and discovered the couple dead in a back bedroom, investigators said. There was a gun found in the home, police said.

Investigators said they suspect Scott shot himself after killing his wife.

Neighbors were shocked by the deaths. Neighbors said the couple just renovated their home and didn't seem to have any problems.
